About AQA A Level
AQA A Level (Advanced Level) is the gold standard qualification for university entrance in the UK. Studied over two years in Year 12 and Year 13, A Levels provide deep subject knowledge and are accepted by universities worldwide. AQA offers over 40 A Level subjects, and is the most popular exam board in England for both sciences and humanities.
AQA A Levels are graded A* to E (A* being the highest). AS Level (Year 12 only) is graded A to E and can be taken as a standalone qualification. Unlike GCSE, A Levels do not have Foundation/Higher tiers — all students sit the same papers. Linear assessment means all exams are taken at the end of Year 13.
AQA A Level exams are held in May and June, with results released in August. Past papers from the current specification are essential for revision — they show the exact exam format, question styles, and mark allocation that students will encounter.

We have AQA A Level past papers from 2016–2024. Papers from the current specification (reformed specifications from 2017) are the most relevant for revision. Older papers may be from previous specifications with different content or format.
AS Level covers Year 12 content only and is graded A-E. A Level covers both Year 12 and Year 13 content, graded A*-E. AS Level results no longer count towards the A Level grade (decoupled since 2015). Most students take the full A Level over two years.
Start with the most recent paper and work backwards. Attempt each paper under timed exam conditions without notes. After completing it, use the mark scheme to self-assess — note exactly where marks were lost and why. Focus revision on weak topics, then repeat with another paper. Most students find 3-5 years of past papers sufficient for thorough preparation.
