On any 'show that' question: write a complete, connected calculation that arrives at the printed value. Loose numbers in the margin earn nothing — examiners will not assume you meant to combine them. Add operators and an equals sign so the chain is unambiguous.

An unstated assumption is a missing logical step that links a reason to a conclusion — never something already in the passage. Test your answer: if the words appear in the text, it cannot be unstated. Ask 'what must the author believe but not say for this conclusion to follow?' That is the assumption.

Copy the question's conclusion verbatim, OR write its direct contradiction. On Q4, attack the reasoning: stipulative definitions, conflations, straw men, dismissal of valid counter-positions. Save expertise/vested-interest evaluation for Paper 2 Question 1(b) — that is the only question where it earns marks.

How to fix this

A flaw answer needs three parts: (1) name the flaw using the syllabus term, (2) point to the specific words in the text that commit it, (3) explain WHY those words make the reasoning weak (e.g. 'the intermediate steps are not justified', 'the views are dismissed by insult rather than rebuttal'). Stop short of step 3 and you cap at 1 mark.

Using counter-positions in Q4 / Q5 without dismissing them

Every counter-position must end with 'However…' followed by a reason it fails. Use phrases like 'this objection is outweighed because…' or 'this is unlikely because…'. If you cannot dismiss the counter, leave it out — an undismissed counter does net damage to your own conclusion.
