A CONTROLLED VARIABLE is a factor kept constant throughout an investigation (e.g., temperature kept at 25 °C). A CONTROL EXPERIMENT is a separate run of the investigation with the key factor removed or set to zero (e.g., the same setup but with distilled water instead of the glucose solution). When a question asks 'describe how to set up a control', it wants the second — a parallel experiment without the independent variable. Writing a list of things to keep the same answers the wrong question and earns no marks.

Use exactly the allele letters given in the question. Dot-and-cross diagrams for covalent bonding (Chemistry Paper 2C)

Foundation tier (1SC0/1BF, 1CF, 1PF, 2BF, 2CF, 2PF) is graded 1–5 and is appropriate if your target grade is 1–4. Higher tier (1SC0/1BH, 1CH, 1PH, 2BH, 2CH, 2PH) is graded 4–9 and is required for grades 6–9. 1SC0 Combined Science covers Biology, Chemistry, and Physics in a single double-award qualification (two GCSEs) with six shorter 60-mark papers. The three separate science qualifications (1BI0 Biology, 1CH0 Chemistry, 1PH0 Physics) each have two longer 100-mark papers and cover the full subject content in greater depth — including Higher-only topics not examined in 1SC0. Students taking Combined Science will encounter a more concise specification with fewer extended specification points, while separate science students are tested on all specification content including the additional Higher-tier-only material.

What's on the 1SC0 data sheet (periodic table, equation list)?

For the Chemistry papers (1SC0/1CF, 1CH, 2CF, 2CH), a periodic table is provided inside the question paper. For all Physics papers (1SC0/1PF, 1PH, 2PF, 2PH), a full list of physics equations is provided as a separate booklet appended to the examination paper — this includes both equations that must be recalled and all others used in the course. No equations booklet is provided for Biology papers. Candidates should note that having the Physics equations booklet does not remove the need to understand which equation applies; selecting the wrong equation (one with too many unknowns) is a common examiner-flagged error.
