Failing to integrate the 3Cs (concepts, content, contexts)
Many students found it difficult to express their understanding of the '3Cs'; the content, contexts and concepts, that are detailed in the guide. This was particularly evident in longer responses (SL / HL Section A part c and HL Section B). As a result, the responses were general in nature.
Section B (HL only)
For HL Paper 1, Section B, most candidates missed including references to similar scenarios/cases.
Paper 3 Q4
The format of this question is known prior to the examination, and therefore opened up the possibility for candidates to pre-prepare written responses. However, this limited the ability for candidates to score highly because to earn more marks they needed to apply their response to the scenario described in the four sources.
