Feature-spotting — labelling techniques without analysing their effect on representation or meaning

How to fix: Never name a feature without doing the next two things in the same sentence: quote the precise example, then explain its effect on representation, voice, or meaning. If the only thing you can say after labelling a feature is 'this is effective', delete the label — it earns no marks until you explain WHY the writer chose it for THIS character, place, or theme.
