About IB German B
IB German B is a Group 2 language acquisition subject for students learning German as an additional language. It covers the five IB prescribed themes and develops reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills in German. German B is available at SL and HL.
Exam Format
Paper 1 (SL: 1 hr 30 min / HL: 2 hr)
Reading comprehension on authentic German texts.
Paper 2 (SL: 45 min / HL: 1 hr)
Written production in an appropriate German text type.
SL vs HL
HL uses longer, more complex texts and expects more sophisticated written German. HL Paper 2 requires a higher word count.
