Spanish ab initio Past Papers 2026

IB Spanish ab initio is a Group 2 Language Acquisition subject for students learning Spanish as an additional language at the ab initio (beginner) level. Spanish is spoken by approximately 500 million in Spain, 20 Latin American countries, the US, Equatorial Guinea, and Spanish communities worldwide. Spanish has one of the world's great literary traditions. Don Quixote (1605), often called the first modern novel, is the starting point of a tradition that includes the Golden Age of Cervantes and Lope de Vega, the Latin American Boom of the 20th century, and contemporary writers from both sides of the Atlantic.

IB Spanish ab initio is designed for students with little or no prior experience in this language. The course progresses from basic communication to managing the five IB prescribed themes by exam. Past papers include Paper 1 (reading comprehension on authentic texts) and Paper 2 (written production in an appropriate text type).
